This presentation first overviews the role of the central bank in the economy before describing in details the money creation process both in normal conditions and in a financial crisis environment (QE and Excess Liquidity). The Federal Reserve Bank of the US (FED), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of England (BOE) are then presented in greater detail, including the tools available to them to deal with the present financial crisis.
